Feng Shui Tip - Doors

Doors are a key aspect of Feng Shui. They receive the qi and are important in their placement. There are several points that can be made about doors when talking about Feng Shui.
Feng Shui Doors
First is that the main door should be of proportionate size to the house. We do not want it too small or too big in comparison with the size of the house. A large house with a standard single door is probably not receiving enough qi. A double door for that house would be more appropriate.

Another point about doors is that they are portals to receive the qi. But keep in mind that contrary to popular opinion, they are not the key to determining the facing of a house. The doorway is the point where the qi enters the house. It is important in that we need to have the doorway in an area of qi that is auspicious.

When you site the house, use the sitting and facing. That is the side the house that is open and the side that is closed, or another way to look at it is the public side and the private side. The door could be on the facing or it might be to the side of the house. It is common for the door to be on the facing, but do not be deceived. In fact, sometimes it is easier to determine the sitting side of the house and understand the the facing is the opposite side, irregardless of the doorway.

Keep the walkway to the door clear of obstructions, including overgrown plants. You want the qi to flow freely to the doorway so that it enters the house. Too much blockage and the qi will not easily enter the house. This may result in difficult finances and stagnant relationships.

Also contrary to popular belief is that the door should not always be painted red. Red is the color of the South and traditionally, homes faced South to receive the warm air. Today though, houses face various directions. The color red is the fire element and it is one of the strongest of the elements. It can result in dramatic effects. It can trigger wealth, but it can also trigger accidents. It depends upon the placement of the door and what the qi is within the house at that directional area. It is better if you do not know the more advanced levels of Feng Shui to avoid red doors.

To summarize:

1. Keep the walkway to the door free of obstructions
2. Understand that the door should be proportional to the house
3. Do not use the door as an indication of sitting and facing orientations
4. Do not use a red door unless you know what you are doing
