The Five Arts. ( ?? ) You may have heard of the five Chinese arts. The five arts covers the in-depth study of the Heavens, Man, and Earth. What specifically are the five arts? They are:
1) Medicine( ? ) - Acupuncture, Herbology, and other Chinese medicinal practices
2) Divination ( ? ) - Feng Shui
3) Astrology ( ? ) - Zi Wei Dou Shu, Four Pillars, and Iron Board astrology
4) Appraisal by appearance ( ? ) Face and Palm reading
5) Mountain ( ? ) - Going to the mountain and meditate
In the old day the Five Arts were the common areas study for the ancient scholars. In fact, today, most people learn these in reverse. Divination or Feng Shui was studied after learning Chinese Medicine. The study of Feng Shui was then followed by the study of Chinese Astrology. Once you learned to read the heavens, man and earth, then you continued by learning to read people by their appearance. Lastly, you would retire to the mountain to pursue your spirituality.
Early practitioners would begin as apprentices and follow their masters with sincere loyalty as they learned just a few tidbits of information each day or month. Eventually they would learn enough to practice on their own. Many people would focus on one or two of the arts. Learning all of them would take a lifetime.
