Self Study vs. Schooling

Rant for today: Recently, I answered a question on some advanced Feng Shui topics. The thing was, this person knew a lot but didn’t know enough. The foundation was obviously missing. As an instructor, I see this a lot. But the worst is the person who is self studied and thinks they know it all. There are a lot of these folks.

What I have found is there is a distinct difference in understanding and humility between those who are self studied experts in Feng Shui and those who have been properly trained. I am not saying that everyone has to attend a Feng Shui school, take all the curriculum, and be experts to just change the Feng Shui of your bedroom. Actually a few simple things will probably do wonders. I am also not saying that in order to be good, you have to attend a school. What I am saying is that there is structure to schooling. There is no structure to reading every book that comes along. There is consistancy in focus in a curriculum.

Having studied this fascinating art/science for more than 10 years, I realize that I am only beginning. You see, the more you know, the more you realize how little you know. Feng Shui is a lifelong study and it requires patience, endurance, and persistance.

So, if you really want to dispel the confusion that comes with reading books, I suggest investing in proper schooling such as that which can be had through the American Feng Shui Institute. I received a testimonial from a recent graduate of the school this morning in the email: ” I chose the American Feng Shui Institute because of its reputation as the best school for someone serious about learning feng shui. I am so glad I did. I will continue to study from this school exclusively until I have met my goals in the field of education concerning the science of feng shui. I cannot recommend the courses offered too highly.

So I hope the you take a moment and think about your goals for understanding Feng Shui. If you just want to know the basics, read a book. If you just want your house improved, hire a consultant. But if you want to take the blue pill, and learn this from start to finish, then take a class. EOR (End of Rant)
