Water and the keys to prosperity
![]()
One of the two words that make up Feng Shui is the work “Shui” or water. Water is a powerful element. It carries the qi and can both positively and negatively affect a property. One of the key things that people need to remember is that “water stores qi and wind disperses qi.” This simple quote explains that water is the holding place for qi. So many cultures value water as a key to prosperity. Water is the key element of any successful city. Most major cities are built on bodies of water. Emperor’s palaces have waterways or moats. These water features hold the qi and protect the prosperity of the ruler or the city.
This can be applied on the scale of a house. Having water near the house can help the prosperity of the house. The key to this is having the water in the East or Southwest directions. During this 20 year period, water in these directions can have a positive effect on the prosperity of the house. The water can be in the forms of a fountain or in a koi pond. It needs to be stored water that is clean and fresh. Stagnant water will bring ill effects.
But what of water that flows near, around, or under the house? If the water is flowing pleasantly along, it can still be good depending upon where it is. If the water is rushing away from the house, then this is drawing the qi or prosperity from the house and so it is unfavorable. Water under the house is also unfavorable because it creates instability. It also draws from the good energy of the house. The photo above shows a strong rush of water. Of course, this house has long since been abandoned. The drain of qi from the rushing water was too strong!
Look at a water feature and see how it flows. Listen to the strength of the water. Is it trickling or is it a rush. This is one indication of how strong the flow of qi is. Also see how the water is flowing in relation to the house. Is it bringing qi to the house or is it taking qi away? If the water is contained, is it fresh? Does it appear pleasant? Or, is it unsightly? Water should be beautiful and pleasant. If you have water features near your house, please insure that they are pleasing to the senses. Doing so will help in the water storing good qi and promoting well being, prosperity, and happiness.
